By 1941, both Bob Beatty and Henson Massey had been drafted, and despite valiant efforts to continue, the group’s golden period had ended. Still, their influence endured. Members like William Bobo, Jimmy Bryant, and Beatty would go on to grace major gospel groups including the Dixie Hummingbirds, Sensational Nightingales, and The Detroiters.

Their 102 recorded titles for Bluebird helped bridge the gap between pre-war jubilee singing and the harder quartet sound that defined gospel’s golden age.
