Document Records presents Lightnin’ Hopkins The Remaining Titles Vol. 1 (1950–1961), a carefully curated collection of rare recordings from one of the most important figures in Texas blues. These recordings document Hopkins during his most active and creative years. Therefore, this release focuses on performances made outside the commercial spotlight.
Lightnin’ Hopkins learned the blues in Texas from Blind Lemon Jefferson and Texas Alexander. As a result, his playing developed as a deeply personal, self-contained style. He performed bass, rhythm, lead, and vocals at the same time, which gave his recordings a raw and direct sound.
Moreover, the tracks on this album are drawn from original 78rpm and early vinyl sources. Document Records has restored them using professional archival methods. In addition, the material is presented in chronological order, allowing listeners to follow the natural development of Hopkins’ music.
